Why prepare for an exam this way? (pragmatic answer)

When I write exam questions, I expect that you have prepared in the manner described in these pages. I expect that you have been taking detailed class notes and that you have recopied and organized them as described in these pages. I expect that you have carefully used the resources provided in the textbook (study guides for each section, checklists for each chapter, and exercises, exercises, exercises). I expect that you have used JMP and the supplied data files when reviewing examples and doing exercises.

The degree to which you have not prepared in this manner will explain most of the surprise, confusion, and/or frustration you may feel during and after the exam.
